If you're repeatedly seeing Error 1 or Error 3 in Spitfire Audio plugins after multiple repairs, your Wi-Fi privacy settings may be causing your computer's hardware address to change.
This is particularly relevant on Windows when Random hardware addresses are enabled.
Why does this happen?
Your computer's network adapter has a unique MAC address, which can form part of the information used during authorisation.
Windows includes a privacy feature called Random hardware addresses, which can use a different MAC address when connecting to Wi-Fi. If this address changes after authorisation, previously authorised patches and presets may no longer match the machine information they were authorised against, resulting in Error 1 or Error 3.
Repairing the library while Random hardware addresses are still enabled may only fix the problem temporarily. If the address changes again, another repair may be required.
Windows: Turn off Random hardware addresses
Before repairing your library, make sure Random hardware addresses are disabled for the Wi-Fi network you use with your computer.
Windows can provide this setting at two levels:
Wi-Fi-wide setting: Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi and switch Random hardware addresses Off, if this option is available.
Individual network setting: Open the properties for your current or saved Wi-Fi network and check its Random hardware addresses setting. Make sure this is also Off.
The exact location and wording of these options can vary depending on your version of Windows and your Wi-Fi hardware.
Once disabled, reconnect to your Wi-Fi network if necessary, then repair the affected library in the Spitfire Audio app.
Important: Disable Random hardware addresses before repairing. If the MAC address changes again after the repair, the authorisation issue may return.
macOS
macOS has a similar feature called Private Wi-Fi Address. This is generally less likely to cause repeated authorisation issues, but it can still be worth checking if you're repeatedly seeing Error 1 or Error 3.
Go to System Settings > Wi-Fi, select Details next to your network, and locate Private Wi-Fi Address.
If you're experiencing recurring authorisation errors, consider switching this Off for your trusted home or studio network before repairing the library again.
The available options may vary depending on your version of macOS.
Repair the affected library
After disabling the relevant Wi-Fi privacy setting, follow these steps to repair the affected library in the Spitfire Audio app.
If you continue to receive Error 1 or Error 3 after changing the setting and repairing the library, please contact our Support team and let us know your operating system, the affected library or plugin, and whether Random hardware addresses or Private Wi-Fi Address was previously enabled.
