What is Hearth & Hollow - Folk Accordion?

Welcome to the third chapter of Hearth & Hollow: Folk Accordion. Journey with us to a creaky old living room in the heart of the countryside, where the accordion finds its true, intimate voice. Crafted by Hunter Rogerson for the modern songwriter, this Kontakt library meticulously captures the instrument's breathy, wavering, and fragile character, transcending typical accordion stereotypes to slot right into your creative flow.

Hunter, with expert programming from Owen Bolig, has brought into life a library that slots seamlessly into a songwriting creative flow, offering a detailed feature set with deep control over the tone and timbre of the accordion – from natural breathy attacks and swells to droning ethereal pads with rhythmic articulations that add delicate textures.

Does the sustain pedal “Re-bellow” feature affect all articulations?

Re-bellows are purposefully a sustains-exclusive feature as indicated by their placement in the Articulations Settings panel. Each of the other articulations utilize recordings of the accordion which contain actual performed bellowing actions and so will always respond to the use of the sustain pedal normally.

Is it normal for a part of the Buttons’ key range to disappear when selecting Blossoms?

Yes, the part of the keyrange that is removed is dedicated to the chord buttons on the accordion. Blossoms were recorded only using the single-note buttons as they are the best fit for the articulation.

Does the room sound change depending on where you place the accordion icon in the room at the center of the interface?

Yes! As a general rule, placing the accordion far from the center of the room will result in more of the sound of the room bleeding into the signal. In addition to this, as a way to emulate the instrument’s relationship to a real microphone, placing the accordion in the top half of the room will yield a slightly different room sound than if you place the accordion icon in the bottom half.

Where is the “Octave Sustains” articulation for the Buttons register?

The switch on the accordion that creates the sound of the Octave Sustains only opens a rank of reeds that physically pertains to the keys and does not affect the sound of the buttons.

Why are Blooms not triggering again after completing one arc?

Kontakt treats the Blooms (and Grooves) similarly to true legato articulations. Because Blooms do not loop like Grooves, MIDI that overlaps with new notes or is quantized perfectly against new notes, is simply carrying forward the sound of the completed Bloom (which is silence!). Simply be sure that there is ample separation between the MIDI notes you want to hear retriggered.
