Originals FAQ

What is Originals?

Originals is a Spitfire Audio range of affordable, professionally recorded virtual instruments. Presented in a simple, clutter-free plugin with essential articulations, presets, and controls.

How can I get Originals?

Products in the Originals range can be purchased as perpetual licenses for £/$/€29 each. You can also 'Build Your Own Bundle' by adding any 5 Originals to your cart, and you will automatically get one free.

These products are also available as part of the Splice INSTRUMENT subscription plan, for $12.99 a month. More info here: https://splice.com/instrument

Is Originals eligible for educational discount?

Yes, perpetual license purchases of Originals are eligible for 30% educational discount, you can find more info on our educational discount here.

The INSTRUMENT subscription is not eligible for educational discount.

Why are Originals now available in INSTRUMENT?

Splice INSTRUMENT is our unified plugin that makes it easier to discover, load and manage libraries. It also enables faster updates, ongoing improvements and a more streamlined creative workflow.

Whilst some prefer to own their libraries, others prefer the flexibility of a subscription. Extending this offering gives customers both options, making the Originals range accessible to everyone.

How do I access these products?

These products are installed and accessed via the INSTRUMENT plugin. After purchasing you will need to link your Spitfire Audio account to your Splice account in order to access your products.

You can play them by loading INSTRUMENT as a standalone, or load it in a DAW that supports third party AU, AAX or VST3 instruments.

You can find a detailed installation guide here.

What are the benefits of the INSTRUMENT plugin?

Splice INSTRUMENT's subscription offers more than 150 GBs of premium instruments from Spitfire Audio and Splice, with more libraries added monthly. Users can even turn millions of Splice samples into playable instruments with the Craft feature in INSTRUMENT.

Free users can also explore a wide-ranging universe of sounds, with a host of free drops available regularly.

I already own some Originals — can I still use them?

Yes, if you own any Originals you will get access to the new, updated INSTRUMENT versions for free. You'll need to create a Splice account if you don't have one yet, and link it from the Product Hub.

You'll need to re-download the products via INSTRUMENT, as they use a new folder structure and include various improvements. See the change-logs HERE.

You will also still be able to access the dedicated plugin versions of the libraries, and install, repair or reset them via the Spitfire Audio App. We suggest keeping these on your system if you have existing, active projects that use them.

Please note that these legacy versions are discontinued and can no longer be purchased. They will no longer be supported or updated going forward.

What are the compatibility and system requirements?

Mac system requirements

  • macOS 12 or later

  • Both Intel and Apple Silicon/ARM are supported

PC requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 - (Latest Service Pack, 64-bit)

Are Spitfire Audio libraries becoming subscription-only?

No, all Spitfire libraries remain available as one-time purchases directly from Spitfire Audio. The subscription option through Splice INSTRUMENT is an additional way to access this collection, not a replacement.

Will future Spitfire libraries only launch on INSTRUMENT?

No, this launch specifically expands the availability of the Originals range.

Will musicians still receive royalties from these libraries?

Yes, musicians featured on our libraries continue to receive royalties, whether you purchase a perpetual license or subscribe.

I own Mrs Mills Piano and/or Janglebox Piano but can't find them in INSTRUMENT — what's going on?

These two products have not been migrated to INSTRUMENT yet, and are currently still available to purchase as legacy dedicated plugin versions.

We will notify you as soon as they become available on INSTRUMENT, and you will automatically receive access to them if you own them. They will also be added to the INSTRUMENT subscription plan.
